The Proton Synchrotron Booster is the first, in the accelerator chain, and smallest proton circular accelerator in the CERN Large Hadron Collider injection complex.[1] Accelerator built in 1972. It has four superimposed rings with a radius of 25 meters. It takes 50 MeV protons from the linear accelerator Linac2 and accelerates them up to 1.4 GeV, ready to be injected into the Proton Synchrotron. It can also take ions from the Linac3 pre-accelerated in the LEIR.
The PS Booster actually consists of four identical rings mounted one above the other.
